FOOD TECHNOLOGY

FOOD TECH (THEORY)
In Food Tech this year, the Year 7s have been learning about food production and how you taste with your eyes. We learnt about how big companies make their pictures seem flawless so you are drawn to the food instantly making you have a mouth-watering sensation. Did you know that advertisers spray deodorant to make fruit like apples seem more shinier? We have also been learning about the five different tastes. We even did a mini experiment allowing us to taste eight different items of food and then placed them into categories of what they taste like.

FOOD TECH (COOKING)
In Food Tech you have one double period every week. In that double period you learn how to cook a certain dish. Then you get to cook it yourself! Most people have never cooked before. And now everybody knows how to light a stove and preheat an oven. Most of all we have learnt how to successfully follow a recipe and make the final product.

In Food Technology we learn how the owners of shops make food look better. When you see it on billboards it looks amazing, but you buy it and it doesn’t look as great. We learned that things that you eat depends on what you see. If the food doesn’t look appealing, you won’t eat it.
I loved making jam drops and chocolate chip muffins. Something I have learned is that if you mix batter fast, it’ll go lumpy. I cook at home, but it’s mostly cupcakes or cookies. I love doing the icing and making it look professional.
I love that Mrs Taylor and the other Year 7 teachers, show us demonstrations before we start cooking, this is helpful and it’s why we don’t make mistakes.
