A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

WINTER CONCERT

Congratulations to the Head of Music, Ms Megan Papworth and the Music Faculty for their wonderful celebration of music held at the Robert Blackwood Hall last week.

It was indeed a spectacular event that showcased the musical talents of our students. Concerts like these allow students’ talent to be recognised and celebrated! It also allows our exceptional music program to be shared.

It is about participation and excellence and provides a benchmark for schools and students in Victoria.

Thank you to the music staff for the difference they make. I also thank our guests who were in attendance including parents, grandparents and friends, as always.

Below are two lovely emails I received regarding the Winter Concert:

“Just a note of appreciation for last Wednesday’s Winter Concert. It was an exceptional evening of musical entertainment! Such talent in both students and teachers, brought together for a streamlined production. For the second time this year, I have been impressed by the commitment of the students and their amazing talents.

What a wonderful experience it was.

From the time we entered the hall, where we were greeted by a smiling staff member, the buzz of excitement, not just from the students but also the teachers, then listening to magnificent music that the young people produced and sang, it was a delight. It was so nice to see name badges on the staff and to observe their interaction with both students and their families.

What really impressed us was the level of enthusiasm that your staff displayed and the obvious value and enjoyment they get in melding all those taking part, into cohesive and talented groups of music makers.

With the reasonable price of the tickets, it is obvious that you are providing entertainment which enables many family members to attend. This was reflected in the diversity of the audience.

Thank you to all involved and for the leadership which encourages young people to enjoy making music”.

YEAR 12 BIOLOGY INCURSION

On Wednesday 5 September, all Year 12 McKinnon Biology students attended an incursion where they had hands-on experience with genetic engineering technologies. Our students were mentored in small groups by PhD and Masters students from Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre who were able to guide and give insight into some of the ground breaking research that is currently taking place.

I would like to thank and acknowledge Ms Emily Nicholls for her organisation of this wonderful opportunity for our students.

SENIOR CENTRE

I want to thank everyone for your patience and understanding with the construction and limited access to our grounds.  It will soon be complete and navigation through the site will be much easier.

The new Senior Centre is absolutely divine and a gift this community will enjoy for generations to come.

MALVERN CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL ATHLETICS

On Thursday 23 August, a group of Year 9 MSLA students helped Malvern Central Primary School with their Athletics Carnival at Duncan MacKinnon. They assisted the teachers with organising and running all the track and field events, and provided guidance and support for the primary school students. The feedback from the teachers was glowing - they praised our students for their maturity, enthusiasm, effort and positive attitude. 

Thank you to Liam Ayres, Kizzie Stirling, Lilli Baikie, Matt Sagiadelis, Miles Brown, Kai Baker-Hill, Jordyn Freeman, Tayla Gustin-Edwards, Victoria Poulos, Rachna Petch who worked so hard with the primary school students and were great ambassadors for McKinnon.
