Classroom News - Year 2

Year 2

SRC

Congratulations to Asha Gray for being elected to be the Year 2 SRC member for Term 1 2020. We know you are going to represent our year well.

Lent

Last week Year 2 celebrated the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. We changed our prayer tables to a purple cloth to show that we are getting ready for Easter, and have made promises to God that we are going to keep for the period of Lent.

Science

This term in Science we are learning about the Earth's resources. This week we have been learning about where fresh water comes from. Desalination plants take water from the ocean and take out any sand, seaweed and salt so that we can drink it. We have created our own desalination plant that turned our salty water into fresh drinking water!

In Week 7 we are excited to start our History unit "The Past in the Present".

Literacy

InitiaLit is underway in Year 2. The sounds we are learning are 'oa' and 'ow', 'igh' and 'y', and 'ue' and 'ew'. The tricky words we are learning are 'until', 'was' and 'here'. We are excited to be studying the book "The Snail and the Whale" by Julia Donaldson.

Numeracy

We have been using the Jump Strategy and Split strategy to break our numbers into tens and ones to help us add and subtract.

Uniform

Year 2 wear their yellow sport uniform on Tuesdays, and house colours on Friday. Normal school uniforms for every other day. Please ensure you child brings their hat so they can play at break and all their belongings are labeled.

Welcome BBQ

The Welcome BBQ is Wednesday, 11th March, starting at 5:30pm. Please ensure you RSVP again so that we can cater for you. Entry to the BBQ will be via Danger Street only. We would love it if you could lend a hand on the day, many hands make light work! Let the office know if you can help. Looking forward to seeing you there!
