Classroom News - Year 3

Literacy and Maths

Year 3 have been working hard across all key learning areas. We have started our Literacy and Maths group work and are loving getting to try new and exciting things.

In Literacy we have been focusing on our VCOP wall and are becoming more familiar with each aspect and how we use them to improve our writing.  Connie Connective  has been our key focus for the last week with us working on extending our sentences to enhance our writing.

3O have been writing our own versions of Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey. We are loving being creative and getting to bring our creations to life. We are hoping that we will be able to publish our stories soon.

In Maths our focus has been on place value. We are starting to move towards four and five digit numbers to create a challenge for ourselves. On Wednesdays we have the opportunity to look at time with last week getting the chance to make our own clocks which we have brightening our walls and helping us to read analog clocks.

Lent

Ash Wednesday last week saw the beginning of Lent.  In Religion we have been learning all about the important times of the year and how we can prepare and reflect in the lead up to Easter.  With a key component of Lent including giving up something we like in order to recognise the sacrifice that Jesus made for us we have had the opportunity to create our own Lenten Promises. We have displayed our promises on our Lenten tree and are trying our best to keep to them.

Science

We are racing along with our science unit. We are enjoying getting to complete investigations and have been checking in with our on going decomposing experiment. We have started to notice some changes with the materials that we buried and are excited and grossed out by what we are finding.

P.E

Year 3 are loving our time together enjoying a range of P.E games. We have been working on our team work as well as games for fun. Our favourite games at the moment are toilet flush,  foxes and chickens and rob the nest.

Diocesan Swimming

Congratulations to our amazing Year 3 representatives who went and did us all proud at Moree last week.  Well done for your incredible efforts!

Special visiter

Year 3 were very lucky to have a special visiter in our rooms this week. We all got to meet Honey the Border Collie puppy who belongs to Emma! Honey is only 5 weeks old and is very cute and cuddly. We had the opportunity to ask some questions and a chance to pat Honey.
