REFLECTION

Lent 2020 - Be Opened... to be led by the Spirit

Lent is a time for all of us to do penance – to interrupt the usual comforts of life, to rediscover in prayer the saving love of God, and to practice charity and justice towards those in need.

 Penance can include:

1. Abstinence from meat, and fasting, are to be observed, especially on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

2. Prayer – for example, Mass attendance; family prayer; a visit to a church or chapel; reading the Bible; making the Stations of the Cross; praying the Rosary; Lenten Group.

3. Self-denial – for example, not eating meat; not eating sweets or dessert; giving up entertainment to spend time with the family; limiting food and drink so as to give to the poor of one’s own country.

4. Helping others – for example, special attention to someone who is poor, sick, elderly, lonely or overburdened.

Remember to be open to the change that God is making in you and your life.

Let us Pray

Nourishing God,

your Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness

where he listened to the hungers of his heart.

Lead us deeper into our own hunger.

Show us the 'bread' that will satisfy our craving,

so that we will desire the power that you alone can give.

We ask this prayer through Christ our Light.     Amen
