There will be a scooter and bike session at first break at 11.00am for these students, run by the Morris Council.

Relay for Life Fundraiser | Friday 20 March

Morris students are welcome to wear free dress with the theme of ‘purple and yellow’ on Friday 20 March. A gold coin donation will support the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life. Morris Council will coordinate the collection of the donations.

Tasmanian Youth Climate Leaders Conference | Monday 23 March

On Monday 23 March a group of students from Year 6 will be participating in the third Tasmanian Climate Change Youth Conference at Kingston High School.

The Australian Curriculum places emphasis on sustainability as a priority for study that connects and relates relevant aspects of content across learning areas and subjects. This is an important opportunity for students to plan and take positive action for climate change mitigation and adaptation in their school and community through participation in workshops and discussions with student peers from other schools.

Parent Teacher Discussions | 23 March - 3 April

Parent-Teacher Discussions will be held in Weeks 8 and 9 at Morris. An email will be sent this week inviting you to book a time with your child’s teacher. You will also receive a letter prior to your meeting, outlining your child’s progress to date, which will support your discussion with the class teacher.

Year 5 Camp | Wednesday 25 March - Friday 27 March

Year 5 students will be heading out for camp on Wednesday 25 March. Students will need to arrive promptly at school on this day. Parents are asked to work closely with students to make sure they have all required items from the equipment list, including a separate day pack with a packed lunch and morning tea for Monday. We ask that students do not bring any lollies or electrical equipment including phones. Please find links to the student information letter and equipment list below.

Reminder: Before and after school supervision

Before school, supervision begins at Morris at 8.30am. If children are dropped at the drop off zone, adjacent to Friends' Early Learning, they will need to go to the Bark Chip playground where a teacher will be on duty until 8.45am. Classrooms are opened at 8.35am in preparation for the start of the school day. After school, a teacher is on duty in the same area until 3.30pm for pick up by parents. We understand that parking can often be challenging after school and provide this supervision to support families. If you intend to do a drive-through pick up after school, a staff member will be located in this area until 3.30pm to supervise students and facilitate the pick up process. We would ask for your patience during the pick up process and that if the drive through is full, that you not stop outside the gate on the road.

Japanese Day | Tuesday 7 April - Special lunch please order by 17 March

On Tuesday 7 April Morris will celebrate our Japanese program with an Undoukai (Japanese Sports day). On this day there will be a special Japanese style lunch available for students from Prep to Year 6. Options include an Obento Box and a variety of sushi rolls. This can be ordered through the Flexischools website. Orders can be made until midnight on Tuesday 17 March. Unfortunately, we will not be able to take any late orders. If your child does not wish to order sushi for the day, please feel free to pack them a Japanese style lunch or their normal lunch. Parents/guardians who wish to join us for our lunch are very welcome to do so at 10.50am.

Reminder: Year 6 - Waddamana Power Station Museum Excursion | Tuesday 17 March

On Tuesday 17 March Year 6 students will be participating in an excursion to the Waddamana Power Station Museum. During the experience, students will deepen their understanding of concepts we are exploring through our current Unit of Inquiry: Where we are in place and time. The significance of this excursion will be the connections students make between the rich history on display and our line of inquiry "People who migrate to Australia and the reasons they migrate (perspective).” This will also be a great opportunity to prepare students with key understandings about energy transfer and generation before our inquiry into How the world works this semester.

Students are to wear their sports uniform and to bring a hat and a waterproof jacket. Students will need to bring a packed lunch, including fruit, snacks and a water bottle. The bus will leave promptly at 8.50am to transport students and staff to and from Waddamana. We will break for eating on arrival at the museum, with an additional scheduled break prior to departing for the return journey. As the students will be spending a long time on the bus to and from the museum, please provide any travel sickness medication that your child requires to their teacher before departure. The bus will return to school at approximately 3.15pm.

As the excursion is outside the greater Hobart area approval is required for your child to attend. Please respond to this form by Friday 13 March.

Reminder: Chess Tournament | Friday 13 March

The Friends’ School is hosting the first inter school chess tournament of 2020 for primary and high schools in Southern Tasmania in The Farrall Centre this Friday 13 March.
