Principal's Report

Principal's Report

On Thursday the 5th of March the College will open its doors and welcome all families of our new Year 7 students for the annual Meet the Teacher evening. This is an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers of their children and ask any questions they may have about their classes. On this evening the school will also celebrate the opening of the new Innovation Centre and celebrate the new opportunities being created through the facility. This is a fully catered event and I hope to see all of our Year 7 families in attendance.

The school received 7 parent nominations for school council which means an election commences on Monday the 24th February, and I encourage all parents to vote for 4 parent representatives over the coming week by returning the posted ballot. There were 3 student nominations for school council which means that an election will also take place according to the same timeline. The two staff representatives will be Laura Forster and Chris Danher.

Any family that may be experiencing financial difficulties in 2020 can seek assistance from the school by contacting the school business manager - Debbie Boyce. The school has a hardship fund that can be accessed by all members of the school community, and I encourage anybody who is having trouble supplying books, uniform or attending school events just to name a few, to contact Debbie and have a discussion on how to access this fund.

A reminder to all parents within the college that if your child has had an Anaphylactic reaction you are required to provide the school with an Individual ASCIA Action Plan as a well as an Auto-injector kit to the school. The schools Anaphylaxis management policy is on the school’s website for more information. If you are unsure of anything in this policy, please contact our school nurse Ms Rebecca Avramoski who will arrange a meeting with you to discuss the schools processes.

I wish all of the Year 7 students who are going on camp this week the best of luck and I know they will have a great time. I look forward to seeing them on the Friday when I come up to visit and join in on this exciting event.

A reminder to all parents of some key events that are coming up on the schools calendar. The Lalor Secondary College Athletics Carnival will take place on Friday the 6th of March. Parents are invited to attend this event but must sign in at the gate prior to entering the venue. Parents are also reminded that there are 2 student free days coming up on the calendar. Monday the 9th of March is the Labour Day public holiday and Friday the 13th of March is the school’s first Curriculum Day for 2020. Parents will need to make alternate arrangements for care on both of these days.

Students and parents may have noticed some significant building works being undertaken around the college that has affected access to some of the buildings. These works are upgrading our entry points so they provide access to students and parents in wheel chairs. These works should be complete by the end of term 2, and will see a long overdue aspect of our college brought up to the required and expected standard.

If you have any queries or questions that you would like answered about the school or the information listed above, then please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,
