Yr.6 Leaders Visit to State Parliament

Last Friday our Yr.6 students were invited by Sarah Connolley, MP for Tarneit to visit and tour State Parliament.   Sarah hosted the student to morning tea in the Parliamentary Café.  She also took us to the library and to areas of Parliament that the general public do not have access too.  It was a wonderful opportunity for our student and school leaders.

Naplan Yr.3 & Yr.5

NAPLAN assessments were conducted this week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The assessments provide information about how children are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school's assessment and reporting process. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills. In 2019 your child will sat a paper NAPLAN test.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Communication is very important between home and school and we want to work together in partnership. We encourage you to make contact with your classroom teachers at any time to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. An appointment is necessary if you would like uninterrupted time to discuss your child.

On 27th June we will be holding child / parent conferences. At these meetings your child will explain their learnings for the term, and they will show you samples of the work they have been doing during Semester 1. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about the learning your child has been undertaking and the steps/goals they need to take to continue their learning.

Creek Cafe

Our cafe is open for children to purchase snacks at playtime and order lunches.

The cafe is open Monday, Tuesday and Fridays.  As our school grows the Cafe will open every day of the week.

Parents are welcome to come and buy coffee or a hot chocolate from our Cafe.

Balanced Readers

Our focus as a school is to ensure our children love reading and are able to read for enjoyment or to find information.  We want children to read every night at home and we have a priority for children to read everyday at home.

How to help

When reading at home please ask your child questions about the book before they start to read and after they have read the book.  Question could include predicting what the book will be about, questions about the characters,  setting, and story.

Numeracy

We have been focusing on problem solving in Maths.  Following are a few problems you could work together with your children.  Try and give them time to think before you jump in to assist.

China

Next week Brianna is heading to China to visit school in Nanjing and Yiwu to build relationships with school.  The trip has been funded by China Sunshine Consulting Group.  We are hoping to host children from these schools in China in Term 3.
