Year 7

Cultural Infusion Day

On Wednesday 26th May, our Year 7 students participated in a 'Cultural Infusion' incursion where they were lucky enough to take part in a range of interactive workshops designed to give them a deeper understanding of their subjects.

Students took part in a high-energy display of Chinese Martial Arts where the presenters discussed the history and philosophy of martial arts in China, demonstrated different styles of Kung-Fu and Tai-Chi and taught basic techniques. Following this students immersed themselves in rhythms, dances, instruments and costumes that traversed the ancient Silk Road.

Students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture by exploring the customs, language, dance styles and traditional dress of Indonesia. Similarly, students were introduced to an array of Japanese instruments including the very loud Taiko drum!

'Crepes for Change' who are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting young people at-risk or currently experiencing homelessness visited at recess and lunchtime to provide delicious crepes. The sumptuous French cuisine was definitely a hit!

The Year 7s came together at the end of the day for an Indigenous workshop that promoted an understanding and appreciation of our nation’s Indigenous people and their connection to the land. Students listened to the didgeridoo, traditional Dreamtime storytelling and were shown a number of Indigenous artifacts, some of which had been handcrafted and passed down from generation after generation! The day concluded with the year level being lead in a traditional dance.
