From the Principal

Here we are the end of another busy term and what a term it has been.

In the space of 10 weeks we have experienced many things:

  • Our College was represented during the ANZAC Day March on Main Street Mornington
  • We had the Southern Peninsula Division Athletics carnival
  • The annual Cross Country event was held
  • The Year 11 Outdoor Education students managed to camp at Wilson’s Prom and students in Year 9 spent the night away for the GRIT program
  • Year 7's went to the Moonlit Sanctuary and participated in a cultural infusion day.
  • Year 9s spent a considerable amount of time discovering future pathways and most were interviewed using the results of their Morrisby surveys
  • Year 11 Biology students went to the zoo, whilst other Year 11s participated in the Ethics Olympiad. During this term we were able to listen to Mike Rolls speaking to Year 7 students and Beau Vernon to the Year 10s
  • Exams happened for all Year 10 and 11 students

These are just the extra curricular activities,  so many more great things have happened inside classrooms  and we managed to do all of this and more despite going into lockdown for nearly 3 weeks.   We came together as a community, working together to ensure lockdown would not stop us from learning and trying new things.

Next term will be another busy term as the work begins for 2022. Early in Term 3 Course Information and student conferences will take place for students in Years 9 and 10 and Year 8 students will be choosing electives for Year 9.

The Year 7 camp will be at the Summit Camp in Traralgon this year and this will occur in the second week of term.

The school production of Mamma Mia is scheduled for Term 3.  The annual VCAL Market Day will take place.  Year 11 students will have their formal and Year 12 student will finally have their fancy dress.

All students completing a Year 12 subject this year will participate in the GAT 29th July.

Thankyou to our families, students and staff. We have achieved so much and will continue to do so. We will continue to honour our values by respecting ourselves, each other and our environment. We will continue to engage and challenge ourselves so we can all achieve and we will continue to encourage and support each other as we are part of a fantastic community.

NAIDOC week will occur in the second week of the holidays and this year’s theme is Heal Country.   NAIDOC invites all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. So you may be able to participate in some way.

At our end of term Assembly on Tuesday we acknowledged our students who worked so hard. Many received Strive Awards. Merit Awards were presented to students in years 7 to 9 at year level assemblies today.

We also recognised our "Adopt-a-Dreamcatcher" program which acknowledges the mentoring relationship between our Year 12 Dreamcatchers and Year 7 students.

I would like to thank all the staff of Mornington Secondary College. It is because of their efforts and commitment that students are able to participate in all the wonderful activities that take place at our College.

Thankyou everyone, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you on 12th July.
