The Fiona Elsey Dream

Just prior to lockdown, we had an emotional day with Gail Elsey returning to BHS, in honour of her daughter Fiona, to inspire our year 8 leaders to continue Fiona's legacy. One of our very own, Fiona was in year 8 when she passed away with Ewing sarcoma in 1991 and this year marks the 30th anniversary of her death.

With a massive love of heavy metal, Fiona met Aerosmith and 'I Remember You' by her favourite band Skid Row, was played at her funeral, with over 600 BHS students lining the streets near Pleasant Street Uniting Church to farewell her.

Gail, an alum of BHS herself, spoke to the students with pride about how much Fiona achieved in her short life and how much they can make a difference by helping people like Fiona. Gail also had the chance to catch up with one of Fiona's favourite teachers Ms Mawer.

Thanks to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute for making this happen. You can read about Fiona's vision by visiting their website The Fiona Elsey Dream – Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute (fecri.org.au)
