Library Monitors

I am thrilled to say that there are many students from Years 2 - 6 who are having a trial of being a Library Monitor. They are extraordinarily dedicated to their job, books and reading! They come to the Library at recess and lunch to do their job! I have had to create rosters to ensure everyone who wants to have a try at looking after the books, indeed, gets to try. It is remiss of me to not have a photo to accompany this great news, but I will endeavour to catch them next week to congratulate them.

Volunteer Book Coverers

Thanks to all the people who have covered books at home over the past few months, it is very much appreciated. If you still have any at home, it would be great to get them back and into the hands of our little readers. Arrival at either campus is fine and we can work on getting them into the classrooms at the Infants Campus. Thank you so very much!

New Books

Thanks to the wonderful support of the Book Fair, we have a lot of new books becoming available for both libraries. Over the next few weeks I will be making them available to both campuses and I look forward to the students reading them. I have also been listening to the students and I know graphic novels are in strong demand as are Rugby League centred books. I have already ordered some graphic novels, but there seems to be a shortage of Rugby League books suitable for a primary school collection. If you know of any, fiction or non-fiction, please let me know and I am happy to locate them for our keen readers.

'Reading for Leisure' Supports Academic Success

Teachers have known this for years, but there is constant research out there to show that readers who read for pleasure do better at school! If you would like a light article to read about this topic please go HERE, it takes but a minute to read. It is an American article but applies just the same.

My personal philosophy to support this concept is to make the books attractive, have freedom of choice and encourage reading by being positive and not making it a chore. Hence, my above comments regarding Rugby League! Let them read what they want to read when reading for pleasure!

Library Bags

Part of our discussion in Library is about looking after the school resources. It is important to note that the books belong to the entire school community. I speak to the younger students about how our books need to be treated like 'treasure'. The point I am making is that we are lucky to have such a large variety of books available to us and it is our responsibility to return them to school in as good a condition as we received them. As well as enjoy them and read them while we have them!

Part of this is taking books home in a library bag. This bag does not have to be anything amazing! Just a bag that protects the books from leaking water bottles, unfinished sandwiches, felt pens and other school bag objects.

Please ensure your child has a bag for their library day. The library days are as follows:

Odd weeks of the term:

Monday: 5W 5C

Wednesday: 3P 3R

Thursday: KD 1K

Friday: 1H 1C 2B

Even weeks of the term:

Monday:  4A  4S

Tuesday:  KU  KL

Wednesday:  Year 6

Thursday:  2R  2M

Friday:  3K  5CG  4Q

See you in the Library!
