4C

This term, the level four learners began their literacy learning with the unit of poetry. Our learning intention throughout the unit was to extend our understanding of poetry when analysing and writing poems. The learner’s first task was to dive into poetry and complete their own personal inquiries on different poetry types and styles that interested them. It gave them the opportunity to research and build on their own understanding of poetry making it personal and meaningful to them. During their inquiry, 4C researched the structure, features, origins and examples of their chosen poetry types and created a Google Slide presentation showcasing what they had learnt as well as their own written examples. The learners then used their presentations to teach one another about the different poetry types. Below are some examples of 4C presentations as well as some of the poems the learners have written. Enjoy!

The perfect round shape of a blueberry,
The plush ripeness of an apple,
These wondrous fruit amaze far and near,
For there are no problems to grapple.

The golden juice of a mango,
The crunchy hardness of a pear,
This luscious harvest is too good,
It will surely make you stare.
Straight from the bush,
The vine or the tree,
All these fruits,
Take care of me.

When you’re sick,
Or when you’re ill,
Consume some fruit,
No need for a pill.

Black, dark as night,
As your heart crumbles,
It feels like the end of the world.

As you walk down the street
The strong current pulls you into the black hole
The world of nothing.

The world of nothing spreads sadness,
Sadness and gloom.
Nothing but a cold breeze.
