The 7 / 8 STEM program over the past few weeks has been continually developing and has captured the students creativity and application to the task abilities.

They have produced terrific work.

Blue Light / Blue Edge

Our students from across all campuses have completed the Semester  long program of working with Victoria Police 2 days per week since the start of the year.

This group have now graduated and have enjoyed celebrating their great success and commitment.

The disappointment this week of not being able to go off site for their final session at Lady Northcote Camp was short lived and testament to their new found resilience in accepting and overcoming challenges.

Laura, Skye, Grace, Max, Kane and Saida give appreciation.

As we acknowledge every time the Blue Edge program is mentioned - none of it would be possible without the concept being supported by Vic Pol and our College leaders. But then the concept comes really through the dedicated team of Police and School staff, teh families of participants and the students themselves who have gone above and beyond any normal school routine to embrace this unique opportunity. There was an Article praising the program in the Police Online Magazine that explains more about the local police perspective.

SEED and Sport

Coaching

In May's newsletter we shared some footage of coaches with our students and in this issue we can take a look at who these coaches are who are adding to our students skill sets.

We need to make a quick mention of a donation received of grey sweat tops for the coaches.  This has been a great asset with students all able to recognise and welcome coaches as belonging to SEED.

7 - 8 SEED have started their new sports for the term. Badminton, volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball and a new session on Fitness through Dance.  This rotation was first identified through the Blue Edge and the students thought it was terrific and asked for more. Luckily our trainer is Jenny a highly regarded Salsa / Hip Hop / fitness teacher from her home country of Colombia. The family have settled in Norlane. Laura Year 9 and Euler Year 3 have made a great impact on their campuses.

Performing Arts

The Hendy and Peacock students have been finalising their Performing Arts working With Miss Perry over the last 6 weeks. We look forward to starting Performing Arts with the Wexford and Tallis students after the break.

The Year 3/4's have been exploring emotions using a program on their chrome books called Chrome Music Lab.

The Year 5's have been exploring the musical instrument family. Students then used this knowledge to design and build their own music instruments

The Year 7 and 8's have been exploring Art OF Foley and creating their own sound effects to a short video clip.

This is a really interesting You Tube video of professional Hollywood Sound making. 6 minutes well worth a viewing.

IMPACT

Earlier this term we were very lucky to receive a grant from Regional Arts Victoria to engage artists in schools partly to compensate for COVID disruptions but mostly to promote a wide range of arts in schools . We welcomed Angelica Clunes,  as our community artist, to our IMPACT class where she has been facilitating a puppetry unit with our class. From finger puppets, to sock puppets and shadow puppets students have been designing, creating and making a wide range of characters. The ongoing development is to create puppets plays to later perform to our younger students.

It is official IMPACT is a part of our Goldsworthy curriculum. At the beginning of this year, we introduced our second pillar of excellence - IMPACT (Inspiring Musicians, Performers and Artists to Create Together). Through this Year 9 elective, students who have a passion in either the Performing or Visual Arts, further develop their skills and explore pathways their passions may take them. A few weeks ago, IMPACT joined SEED with a specialised top for IMPACT days.

EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY

What an amazing 6 months we have had at the Extended School Day during semester 1. With the introduction of many new programs such as drone flying, Japanese and Wearable Art to old time favourites like scrapbooking, badminton and yoga. Many students have been participating in this unique program to Northern Bay for six years but we have a number of brand new Year 3 students having heir first experience.. Thank you to all the adults who have to alter their home arrangements to collect students from Goldsworthy at 5pm. Thank you.

Yoga was a hit this term

With around 150 students participating each night, it has been a very exciting first semester. Last week we had signups for the term 3 program, and it was exciting to see our students taking up many more new programs that they themselves had asked for. I am always stunned that bookings start at 8am and by 10 past many programs have already been fully booked! Your kids are terrific!

Extended School Day

The Term 3 Extended School Day Program sign up opened on Tuesday 15 June for Years 3 to 10 students with an terrific response from students enrolled for Term 3. Over the three late afternoon sessions next term we will have over 500 students attending each week. Thank you to all our families for all their support. Information on all Term 3 programs can be found at

HANDS ON LEARNING

A long standing program run across the college is Hands On Learning. Schools Australia wide deliver this outstanding program which ensures that participants gain cooperative life skills that the classroom does not deliver. Each student knows that this is a great opportunity not to be wasted and their work delivers outcomes not only personally but also into the wider community, much of it Northern Bay College itself.

This term's recipients has been our Family Learning Centre at Goldsworthy Campus which has had a great addition to make the front entrance interesting and attractive for the young children attending Day Care or Kindergarten.

In the next stage trellises will be added and planted with attractive climbers - we are thinking perhaps hardenbergia.

We gave a few of this semester's team the chance to add their feedback.

Hands on learning

is a program where you get to have many fun experiences, and where you learn new things and skills. In this program everyone loves to get their hands dirty, helping in the garden, doing dishes or picking up saw dust!.

I like HOL because I learn other stuff that I do not do in the classroom, we learn more practical things. Then I can build things for my family. I like learning from other people, seeing what your project turns out like. I also get to meet kids from other campuses.

Arron

I like that I get to make new friends, everyone is kind. We learn something new all the time. We work with power tools and wood.

We built new garden covers for our garden beds.
