As we head towards the end of Term 2, P-2s have shown their resilience and flexibility once more. They have returned to class after a period of Remote Learning and have been able to recommence onsite learning and follow their schedules with minimal disruption.
During Literacy, students have been having fun learning how to write procedural texts with many language experiences included. They have been able to write the steps for experiences such as making fairy bread. Students continue to participate in small group (guided) reading sessions. During Mathematics, students continue to learn about place value and have ventured into the world of money and time.
A favourite learning experience for all P-2 students is Investigations. Through play and investigational experiences, children develop self-motivation and the ability to make their own choices. They also develop the ability to reflect and learn from their successes.
Investigations take place across all campuses and students have been very engaged since their return. A part of our Investigations is a ‘Dramatic Play’ station, this has real life learning for the students to join in. Some of these options this term have been: fire stations, farmers markets, doctors surgery and many others.
Literacy and Numeracy are important during these activities through the use of telephones in reception to encourage conversational skills, the use of money to pay for items and also measurement skills to name a few.
Observing students grow and improve their ability to collaborate at these Dramatic Play stations is amazing. Catering to all needs and interests during Investigations through student voice allows students to become passionate learners.
We can’t wait to construct new and exciting dramatic play stations in Term 3.
