Outdoor Education can take you places

The Outdoor & Environment Studies program allows students to explore different types of outdoor environments. Last term, the Units 1 & 2 class enjoyed a 5 day/4 night camp at Mount Stirling, where they experienced the beautiful landscape of the Victorian Alps.

The Mount Stirling experience was designed to equip students with the skills  to describe, identify and analyse the characteristics of this type of environment and to learn about the land management of areas such as this. The foundations of this program will be built upon when students complete an Alpine program later in the year. They will use this experience to understand seasonal change, and the different uses of outdoor environments.

Heading into cooler weather was just one of the challenges faced by the class, but they all faced the activities and opportunities with enthusiasm, optimism and a can-do attitude. Seizing an opportunity such as this, to learn outside of the classroom,  ensures that students can see how their studies apply in the 'real world', clearly illustrating that this  learning pathway  can lead them to a variety of career destinations.

All agreed that the reward  of visiting such a beautiful, pristine environment was well worth the effort required. Glorious scenery, beautiful sunshine, along with the calm and quiet of the remote location completed this enriching experience. Being  'far from the madding crowd', traffic noise and technology  was an welcome and refreshing experience - a chance to recharge the batteries and rediscover nature.

On top of the world!
On top of the world!

I congratulate all these students on their commitment to their studies and the remarkable teamwork skills that they displayed while on the trip.
