Music

PYP Unit Of Inquiry: 'How We Express Ourselves'.

Year Three’s transdisciplinary theme this term is ‘How We Express Ourselves’. We are reflecting on the way Australian songs and dance have changed over the years, according to the environment and audience. The students will participate in many and varied activities with both modern and traditional music as a stimulus. This will culminate in a bush dance, created by the students themselves.

Students will:

  • Respond to music from First Nations musicians. E.g. Baker Boy
  • Accompany songs by playing chords on chime bars.
  • Reading and writing rhythms in group work.
  • Take risks at improvising as they play percussion instruments
  • Sing songs e.g. The Last Anzac
  • Listen to and appreciate a variety of music connected to their Unit of Inquiry e.g. Click Go the Shears, Land Downunder, My Island Home
  • Learn Australian Bush dances E.g. The Galopede and Waves of Bondi
  • Create their own bush dance in groups.
  • Discuss how lyrics have had to accommodate the change in social attitudes and experiences
