Achievements

Mila Murphy (2V) has won the MVP award in her domestic basketball premiership side and was chosen for the inaugural under 10s Rep Basketball team for Kilsyth Cobras. They recently played in a national tournament and took out the whole championship beating South Adelaide in the grand final. Mila was also the youngest player in the team at only 7.

Mali Lane (2V) has won the Ringwood Little Athletics Centre Gift on the weekend.

A little bit about the gift:

What is that? Essentially, we take your athletes 100 and 70m times, work out a handicap position (marker) and line the athletes up on the front straight to race from their marker.  There are heats, and winners of heats will progress to Semis, where we mix all age groups together (but split gender).  After the Semi’s, finalists are determined and then there are two finals races to determine a girl and boy winner.

There were approx 80 girl athletes competing.  Mali was very determined and improved her time with each race.

Local Treasure

The Friends of Melview Reserve are delighted to share with the RNPS community that a new sculpture has been installed at Melview Reserve.

On Saturday 11 February 2023, Maroondah City Council and local community (including many RNPS students) were excited to unveil ‘Da Ancient One’, a sculpture by renowned Australian public artist Alexander Knox (previous commissions include AAMI stadium and Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne).

Tawny Frogmouth families call Melview Reserve home and it is wonderful to honour them with this sculpture. Elspeth De Fanti (Friends of Melview Reserve Chair and current RNPS parent) approached Maroondah with this sculpture idea and it has been amazing to see the idea come to life.

Thank you to the many RNPS students and families who have undertaken recent plantings at the reserve. Thanks to all the rain, these plants have grown so much and are already providing great new habitat for local species. More information about 2023 plantings and how to be involved will be shared soon.

RNPS students and families are encouraged to come and see the sculpture for themselves at Melview Reserve, just downhill of the school grounds at the bottom of Ricki Court.

Friendship Carnival

Eastland was bazing as the Friendship Carnival came to life last Thursday. Eastland hosted the founder of UrStrong, where Friendolgy all started. MySelf (Mr Trend) and Teresa Smith, had the privilege to take four students along to the carnival, to help run a UrStrong themed activity. Here is a little write up from Gemma and Evie about the night.

On Thursday 23 of February, Cameron, James, Evie, and Gemma all went to Eastland after school at 4:00 for the Friendship Carnival. We waited out the front for a little while then a lovely lady came and took us back. At this time we were feeling very professional when we were finding the right size t-shirt and eating some delicious pizza. Then we went out to the station we were hosting. We felt very happy and excited. Cameron and James went to get some quick pictures and we did to0. Then some kids came to our station, we felt amazing helping them out. Some of the other stations were stamp making, badge making, writing kind acts and then receiving and enjoying a delicious cookie, corn hole, bookmark making, martial arts, and of course our station etch art. We ran our activity for a while and then it was time for the famous Dana to come out and give us a speech about friendship. There were a lot of lovely parents and children that came and not only did the activities but sat down and watched Dana talk. We had a great time and just like that the  night was over.

We knew Dana was going to be at school on Friday. We were so excited. We felt great when we toured Dana. She said that our talk it out space is the best space she’s ever seen. We loved everything about what we did. We had a great time.

Thank you
