WELCOME TO VISUAL ARTS 2023!

My name is Rebecca and I am the Visual Art Co-Ordinator!

I am very passionate about Art and bringing out students creativity and having them explore elements and principles of art and mostly, having FUN!

If you see me around please say hello!

Location:

Visual Arts Room 1 is located in STEAM 1 (Between the Argus and Xenica Building)

Visual Arts Room 2 is located in STEAM 2 (Between the Achilles and Ulysses Building)

There are some exciting plans for the Visual Art program this year for each community and I cannot wait to share them and for your children to express themselves through their artwork.

FOUNDATION COMMUNITY

This term we will begin with learning all about safety in the art room, and exploring the art room. Then students will move into learning about Line. This includes exploring all different types of lines they can create and how to create pictures using lines. I am very excited to see the students experiment and create amazing art work!

1/2 COMMUNITY

This term, the 1/2 students are learning about brushstrokes. The kinds of brushstrokes they can make and how brushstrokes create movement in an artwork. They will practice with a range of different materials including paint, watercolour and oil pastels. We will also be looking into Australian Artist Ken Done who is known for his colourful artwork and use of brushstrokes that shows a variety of different brushstrokes.

3/4 COMMUNITY

This term, the 3/4 students will be looking into contrast, contrast is when opposite elements are arranged together. Students will explore the different elements of contrast including, black and white, colour, scale and pattern. They will explore how these elements contribute to creating an artwork with a draft and idea.

5/6 COMMUNITY

This term, the 5/6 students will be learning about illusions and sketches. Students are able explore illusions and how they trick the mind (especially the ones where you think the image is moving and it is not). We will be practising creating illusions of different kinds (the illusion of how many faces or how many animals can you see?). The other part to this unit is sketching and practising how to shade to create a sketch. This explores control over their line work and ability to be patient when creating a sketch. They may even incorporate the 2 parts and sketch an illusion to trick the mind.

ART SMOCKS

I have already sent a compass message but just a reminder, if your child has an old t-shirt or a top spare, please consider sending this to school as an art smock. I have set up art smock tubs for each class so students may bring them and store them at school. This will help, if students are working with materials like paint or clay and prevent getting other materials on their uniforms. Please send their art smocks (again a spare top or if you prefer to purchase a smock you can) with their name and grade clearly labelled, these can then be placed in class tubs to prevent lost property.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Exciting News from Aitken Hill!

Some exciting news! Suzie (Our other amazing Visual Art Teacher) who went on Maternity Leave from Term 4 had her baby in October.

A beautiful, baby boy named Rory! We cannot wait to see her back at Aitken Hill PS and wish her all the best as she goes through the journey of motherhood.

The students of Aitken Hill already have some great ideas and I cannot wait to see them translate into their art projects.

I cannot wait to help your children create amazing artworks and share them with you all!

Thank you,

Rebecca
