Principal's Report
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Congratulations to our student leaders for 2023. This year we have 4 School Captains and 8 House captains.
Our school captains are Aiza, Anushak, Atharva and Salam.
Our House Captains are Aarav, Aroush, Craisol, Ismail, Natalya, Spencer, Teiro and Zoha.
Our House Spirit will be working with our captains throughout the year to create authentic events and activities for our students and school community. https://www.ourhousespirit.com.au/
Our House Spirit worked with our leaders last week and their first activity is to plan a house welcoming activity for our Prep students.
Congratulations to our captains! We look forward to our work together throughout the year.
TRAFFIC
I would like to ask parents/carers to be extra careful when driving during school arrival and departure times around both of our school campuses. Please be mindful of pedestrians and bike riders, especially during these busy times.
Unfortunately, we have had a couple of students injured recently while walking and riding to school. We thank our local council for their prompt response in surveying our families and sharing the plan for a new crossing on Waterview Boulevard as well as an upgrade to our main crossing on Elevation Boulevard.
Below is our most recent communication from Mayor Joseph Haweil.
I’m advised that Council’s Traffic Team completed their investigation last week and can confirm that the location warrants a school crossing.
The Team will now further investigate the site to determine whether it requires just a school crossing or a permanent pedestrian crossing (that applies outside school hours as well). The Team have assessed it as a medium to high priority and we will look to complete design and delivery across 2023/24 to 2024/25 (the relevant Director is looking at opportunities to get this completed as promptly as possible).
I have also asked that the Traffic Team makes contact with you next week to establish contact and ensure Council keeps you informed as everything progresses.
In terms of the existing school crossing servicing the school on Elevation Boulevard (see below), this crossing will be upgraded to a raised safety platform school crossing which will reduce traffic speeds and improve safety for pedestrians. The project is expected to be delivered during the school term 1 break subject to contractor availability as it is part of the 2022/23 Capital Works program.
Here is a photo of proposed crossing on Waterview Boulevard.
Thanks everyone for your patience, we will update you as more information becomes available.
NAPLAN
Best wishes to our Year 3 and Year 5 students participating in the NAPLAN assessments over the next 2 weeks. NAPLAN has been moved to March in the year so that teachers across Australia can access student results earlier.
