Mr Forrest
It was great to be out and about at so many wonderful activities over the past few weeks. Last week I visited the Year 11/12 students in Queenscliff while they were on camp. One of my yearly highlights is to judge the annual Camp Masterchef. Cabins were given $40 dollars to prepare a meal for themselves and the judges. There were 5 cabins of three courses so 15 dishes to try in total. On the whole I was very impressed with the variety of dishes to try. Who would have thought that canned spam and noodles would have tasted so good or the peanut butter, twiggy sticks and Doritos combination. The light and fluffy rum-balls, pastas dishes, honey soy chicken, fresh bruschetta, and sugar overloaded deserts were all highlights in there own unique way. However, I can never go past the BBQ marathon dim sims with ABC soy sauce which is always a game changer.
Apart from the camps we recently inducted our Student Leaders from Year 6 and the Senior School Captains. We reminded students that it is not just a badge it is up to all elected individuals to step up be a leader in 2023. You need to put in the effort to be the most positive leader that you can be in 2023. All elected SRC (Student Representative Council) students will be inducted at a special ceremony with the Loddon Shire office in the not too distant future.
Late last week I also had the pleasure, along with Kerry Walker, to meet with our new local state member Martha Haylett MP to discuss education in a rural area and the need for a Childcare Centre in Wedderburn. Martha has agreed to return in a months time to visit our school playgroup and hear first hand the need for a purpose built childcare centre in Wedderburn.
It is great to have the basketball up and going again with more students joining in all the fun. I have also enjoyed my time back in the classroom each week on Thursday taking a period with the year 9 students.
Our annual school council elections will be held next month. Currently we have a few parent positions available. If you would like to learn more please call me at school or feel free to talk to other parent representatives such as President: Carolyn Stephenson, Deanne Caserta and Dale McCoy or Parents & Friends (P&F) President: Melinda Springthorpe. The School Council is made up of Wedderburn College Staff, Students representatives and Parents who hold the majority. The School Council plays an important role in setting the direction of the school, student learning/engagement priorities and various other activities. We meet twice per term at 6 p.m. with only eight meetings per year and have a meal provided when we meet on site. Occasionally we may have an online meeting during the middle part of the year. If you would like to come and have your say please consider giving me a call on 54943011.
We look forward to our first House event this Friday 24th of February when the rivalry between Ansett and Jacka will continue. Will Ansett swim well to win back to back titles or will Jacka seek revenge for a controversial loss in 2022. I encourage parents, carers and interested community members to pop in and say hello during the day. The weather will be warm but not as hot as last Friday when it was a sweltering 41C. Please wear a hat, apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Go Yellow, Go Jacka!!
A reminder to everyone that our annual school photos will be taken on Friday 3rd of March. The photos start early in the morning with the staff photos and then we work our way through the school. Please remember that you must wear full school uniform.
An early warning, we are about to launch planning for the annual Easter School Fete.
The fete will be held on the last day of Term 1, Thursday 6th April commencing at 10 a.m. As it is the last day of term school we will finish at 2:30 p.m. More details will be released to the community over the next few weeks. We will be asking for donations, stall holders and volunteers. All friends, family and community members are most welcome to attend.
