The Dandy Writing Stars in the Library
They say that the pen is mightier than the sword, but the keyboard proved a popular and powerful weapon of choice for many of the students participating in the 2022 NaNoWriMo YWP Challenge in the Library!
We have been running NaNoWriMo YWP every November in the Library since 2012. NaNoWriMo YWP is a writing challenge that asks students to write daily in that month. Students aim for a word count writing goal and if they achieve their total for their year level, they are pronounced winners. In 2022, we recorded excellent participation and amazing successes.
109 students signed up with us in the Library. Of those, 69 students actively participated and checked in with me to verify their final word count totals. In the end, there were 44 winners who had completed the minimum word count totals for their respective year levels.
The moment we had all been waiting for finally arrived on Thursday 2nd March 2023! We were ready to announce the 2022 NaNoWriMo YWP Writing Challenge Stars and pronounce the overall champion. Altogether, as a writing community, we pledged 792,262 words, but I'm happy to report we wrote an epic, eye watering 1,043,392 words. A staggering amount! Thank you to everyone who wrote and participated. The overall champion of NaNoWriMo YWP is Alishba of D9 who wrote a whopping 75,000 words. She earned a certificate, a winning trophy, a NaNoWriMo YWP t-shirt and giant chocolate bar for her efforts. Congratulations Alishba! Congratulations to all who wrote in 2022. Something magical happens each year and last year was no different. You signed up as students and left authors. Thank you for sharing your journey with me in the Library!
The table below lists the word count totals achieved by our Dandy Writing Stars.
If you would like to be an author too, please join us for Writing Club in the Library every Wednesday starting Wednesday 22nd March. All are welcome to join.
