Farewell 2020!
As we near the end of our school year, we are reflecting on the year that has been with positivity and hopefulness. Rather than the things we have missed out on this year, we are encouraging our students to celebrate all the things we have; our family, friends and health. We are so very proud of every 1/2 student and the incredible achievements they have made. Resilience, perseverance and a positive outlook are all to be thankful for.
Over the past fortnight the 1/2's have enjoyed exploring Biography texts learning about the lives of famous individuals who have made a positive difference in the world including Stephen Hawking, Frida Kahlo, Evonne Goolagong, Greta Thunburg, Amelia Earhart, Coco Chanel and Marie Curie. Students were inspired by Marie Curie’s scientific discoveries such as X-rays and happily built their own human body skeletons out of natural materials found in the yard.
Advent is a time of waiting and hoping as we prepare for the birth of Jesus. We have been exploring the meaning of patience during this time discussing questions such as ‘What are things we wait for? How do you feel when you are waiting for these things? How do you prepare for these things? What do you hope for when you are waiting?’ . The 1/2's have shown an enormous amount of patience over the past few weeks while waiting for our school chicken ‘Snow’ to hatch her eggs. Students were thrilled to see when they arrived at school on Monday that the chicks had finally arrived! We were able to make a meaningful connection with waiting for the birth of our chicks and Jesus whilst showing patience during Advent.
As you enjoy your well deserved break, please remember to continue reading over the holidays when possible and practice purposeful writing such as letters to family, friends, Santa, Elves or a shopping list for Mum.
From all 1/2 teachers, we’d like to express our gratitude to all parents and caregivers who have shown their support in so many ways this year. We wish all our wonderful 1/2 ‘s all the very best for next year and a safe and restful festive holiday.
