Next year we are extremely excited to be introducing a SPICE Playgroup at our school. This playgroup will be facilitated by a trained teacher on staff who will work together with parents during the playgroup session, to ensure they and their children are 'Learning Together'. Learning Together is a program for families with young children that aims to engage families in their children's learning from birth.
What are the Benefits of Playgroup?
- At St Raphael's, our Supported Playgroup will have a focus on learning that occurs through everyday play and learning opportunities similar to those experienced by Foundation students during Investigations. By building parents'/carers awareness of how they can influence their child's learning through simple things, we will support them to become a powerful positive influence on their child's future learning, health and wellbeing.
- Parents/carers will receive ideas for activities that they can do at home to support their child's learning.
- Parents/carers and children will develop and increase a sense of belonging to our school.
- Parents/carers will have the opportunity to interact with educators and professionals, breaking down perceived barriers.
- Parents/carers will have the opportunity to interact with other parents/carers and share knowledge and experiences.
- Children, parents/carers will become familiar with the set routines, learning expectations and environment.
- Children will have the opportunity to develop their literacy, numeracy, social and emotional skills as well as fine and gross motor skills.
- Children will have the opportunity to develop their sensory pathways, cognitive and executive functioning skills and they will develop dispositions for learning (habits of mind).
- Parents/carers will form a connection with our school and will have opportunities to be involved in school events and make use of school facilities.
- Children will become familiar with our school which will result in improved transition.
