Where has 3 years gone? As I reflect on my time at St Raphael’s, having arrived as a graduate from university, I have nothing but gratitude towards the staff, students, parents and community for their support throughout my time as the Physical Education teacher. In this time, I saw so many students develop lifelong skills (such as their fundamental movement skills) and watch their passion for physical education and physical activity grow, both in classes and in the yard, but also outside the school grounds in their many sporting activities.
I love what I do and being amongst the students helping them with their skills, and the students make this happen with ease when they show up to their PE lessons with smiles on their faces and eager to learn! I will miss hearing about all the weekends sporting results, and how far some of the student travelled for their events. We are blessed with the magnitude of talented students at our school, and I look forward to hearing about some of the amazing things they do in their futures!
To the parents and families who turned up to all of our inter school sporting trials and events, and offered their assistance, I thank you for all your support and help. The look on the kids faces when they saw the St Raphael’s community cheering them home in their events was amazing and something I will always remember!
Fingers crossed the one positive that I leave for Matthew is that I take the curse that has followed me with Interschool sporting events and sports days being intervened by the weather! I will miss the World Cup Finals and AFL Grand Finals being held on Greenland daily (and the need to replace the ball because someone forgot they weren’t playing on the large oval/field). Whilst I say farewell to you all, St Raphael’s will always have a special place in my teaching journey! Arrivederci 👋
Over the weekend, I came across this poster of "15 skills that athletes can transfer from sport to the working world". Whilst I know many students are some years away from entering the working world, I note the similarities of some skills that are definitely transferable to their time at school, and am glad to be sharing this with you!
Students in Year 5/6 will be completing their preferences for the 2021 Winter Interschool Sports this week. This is not a guarantee that students will receive their preferences, it will allow us to ensure that the students can nominate their preference for the Winter Interschool Sports.
Our 2021 Swimming Trials will take place at Northcote Aquatic Centre in early February. This week we will be talking to the students in year 3-6 about their interest in participating in these trials. We will only take one bus to the trials, and we need to ensure that we take an even amount of boys and girls whose birthdays fall in 2011/2012 (9/10year olds), 2010 (11 year olds), and 2008/2009 (12/13 year olds). Further information will come in relation to this.
Our 2021 Athletics Trials will take place later in term 1, following the completion of our Athletics units in Year 3 - 6. All students in these year levels will participate in these trials, giving all students an exposure to testing their skills against benchmarks for their age groups.
