Settling In
The Kindergarten teachers are so impressed with how well the children have settled in to school. It is amazing seeing confidence and independence grow at drop off, in the play ground and in the classroom!
Home Readers
This week we are sending home our home reading folder for the first time. At this stage of the year we ask for you to read some books with your children from the selection you have at home. These books can be recorded in the home reading diary that is in your child's folder.
In the diary you can also find some activities to do with your child. These are based around what we have been learning in class. Please look to see which page has a tick on it, as these are the activities that your child is ready to complete. If you could please return the home reading folders to school on Wednesdays, we can then place a tick for the next activity your child can do at home. Please do not move onto activities without ticks as we would like to cover these in class before your child does them at home.
Parent / Teacher Meetings
Parent / Teacher meetings have started this week. To make an appointment please go through the Compass app. If you have any issues with making an appointment please contact the front office. Meetings held during the school day will take place in the conference room, and meetings after school will take place in our classrooms. We look forward to setting some goals for your child with you.
English
We have been having a wonderful time playing with our words in English. We have been breaking our words into syllables and we have started to blend the beginning sounds of a word with the end of words.
We have started writing a lot in Kindergarten. This week we are learning to write the word ‘the’. Kindergarten cannot wait to show their families how clever they are with their writing.
This week we introduced our first alphabet friend Maggie Mouse! She is introducing the sound /m/, and loves to munch on mandarins and muffins, mmm!
Religion
We are continuing our learning about the story of the shepherd. We have had lots of fun acting out the story, creating the story through pictures, drawing the story, creating our own fluffy sheep and making a display of our names to remind us that God knows each of us by name.
Maths
Over the last fortnight we have been learning about about addition and subtraction in Maths. We have been using the word “and” to add two groups and “take away” to find how many are left when we are subtracting. We have lots of fun, especially when we get to use the blocks and paddle pop sticks to help us find our answers!
Science
We are continuing our learning on Living Things in Science. This week we are learning how to use living things to help us protect animals. In pairs we are in the process of designing a way to help protect an animal. On Friday (5th March), we will be making our design! Some designs may require some old materials from home. We would be very grateful if you could send your child to school with some old recycled/reused materials that your child could use to make their design. Please keep in mind that these materials need to be safe to have at school and we request that materials are not purchased for this activity. Thank you for your support, we are very excited to see what they come up with! Watch this space for the end result!
PDHPE
Relays are a fun way to learn about teamwork, cooperation, turn taking and keeping fit! We have been running in relays in our PE time and we love getting outdoors into the fresh air.
In PDH we have been looking closer at our Zones of Regulations. In particular we have been learning how to identify what zone someone else may be in and how the zone we are in can impact the way others feel.
