Classroom News - Year 5

Mrs Fittler and  Mr Lester

Maths

In Year 5 we are continuing with our Place Value unit. We are working with different numbers up to tens of millions. Children should all have their passwords for Study Ladder and Prodigy, so if they haven't brought them home ask them to write them down on a piece of paper.

English

In English we have started a new novel study on 'My Dead Bunny'. We wrote some wonderful narratives about whales during "Big Write" last week, so many thanks for discussing Talk Homework with your child as this really is beneficial to their preparation. In readiness for NAPLAN in Term Two, could you also please encourage your child to participate in the Typing Tournament. They will need to take their password home for access.

Science

In Science we are still working on our 'Earth's Place in Space unit'. Students recreated the Solar System to scale on the paddock and this allowed for the students to appreciate the size and magnitude of the Solar System. Students also performed a role play of an Indigenous story about the night sky.

Religion

In Religion we have been looking at social justice issues and researching a modern day prophet. Students have gained great knowledge and understanding of how some people have devoted their lives caring for others.  We are continuing to work on our Lent unit.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all parents for attending the interviews this week, they will continue next week. It has been really fabulous to meet some of you and we look forward to seeing more of you next week.  We are excited to be working with you in partnership throughout the year to achieve great things for your child.

Equipment Reminder

Just a reminder to ask your child if there is any equipment they still need to bring in.

Uniform

Year 5 wear their yellow sport uniform on Thursdays, and house colours on Friday. Normal school uniforms for every other day. Please ensure your child brings their hat so they can play at break.
