Classroom News - Year 4

Mrs Ross and Mr Norrie

Over half way in Term 1 already and Year 4 hasn't missed a beat, With new units being a focus, swimming carnival success and ensuring we are committed to fulfilling our Lenten promises.

English

Continuing on in our extreme weather unit in English Year 4 has been strengthening our writing through the use of similes and VCOP. Big write continues on a Wednesday so please do expect talk homework on a Tuesday afternoon. The purpose of talk homework is not to cause stress or worry, it is simply to create an opportunity to come up with some ideas of writing, to make the writing process easier and less stressful.  If it is becoming a bigger issue than necessary please don't hesitate to make contact or leave it for a few weeks.

Sporting Greatness

Congratulations to our three swimmers who represented St Mary's at the Dio swimming carnival (Kieran Stuart, Beau Hill and Elsie Ritsema - St Clair), also a big congratulations to Lucy Bible who was the junior girls champion along with Elsie and Maeve who were our runner up junior girls champions at our school swimming carnival. Kieran was our junior boys champion at our school carnival and runner up at the Dio swimming carnival, Kieran will be heading to Sydney for Polding to compete in 4 events later this month.

History

Year 4 has put out Science unit on hold to discover the reasons behind the great journeys of exploration, following the tall ships that traveled the world from 1400 to 1770.

Looking at primary and secondary resources to gather information has been a trick concept to get our head around even though we do this skill more than we know.

Maths

Mathematics in Year 4 has moved from our whole number unit to time. Year 4 will be looking at analog clocks, digit clocks and converting between the two as well as extending ourselves to read 24 hour time so we can timetable using the correct vocab and time tools.

Parent Teacher interviews

Thank you to all parents that we have been lucky enough to catch up with thus far at interviews this week. Interviews will be continuing next week with many appointments still not filled. It has been fantastic to meet with you all and we look forward to seeing more of you in the coming days.  We are excited to be working with you as a team in 2021 to ensure that your child achieves their full potential.
