Classroom News - Year 3

Mrs Johnson/Mrs  Newsome and Miss Archibald

It has been another busy few weeks in Year 3! We have sunk our teeth into becoming established writers, writing two fabulous Big Write pieces already. It has been wonderful to read such creative compositions, and to see the children embracing the opportunity to be authors.

In Religion, we have been learning about the importance of Lent, and the three elements of almsgiving, fasting and prayer. The students have shown reflection and thoughtfulness when making their own lent promises. We also explored the Caritas Project for 2021, and the wonderful work this charity continues to do.

We have continued our learning about materials and their properties in Science this week, setting up experiments which we are monitoring regularly to observe how natural and processed materials decompose in soil over time. The students are very interested in seeing the results of our investigation!

It was wonderful to have two of our year 3 students represent St Mary’s in swimming at the Diocese carnival on Friday. We are all very proud of Harry Rice and Will Douglas-Menzies and commend them on their amazing effort in the pool.

Just a reminder that Parent Teacher interviews will be held over weeks 6 and 7, with the first appointments available from this Thursday, the 4th of March. Meetings held during the school day will take place in the conference room, and meetings after school will take place in our classroom. We look forward to meeting with you and discussing learning goals for your child.
