From the Chaplain

Rev. Dr Rosalie Clarke

Greetings to both ‘new’ and ‘old’ KWS families

Welcome back to another school year. It will hopefully be a more settled and ‘normal’ one. It is certainly our aim to make it a good one.

Psalm 147:1-11 encourages us to praise God because God is worthy of praise. It is a beautiful excerpt from this song recorded thousands of years ago by a people who were worshipping their creator. It tells of a God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, who determines the number of stars and gives them their names, who lifts up those who are downtrodden and who also brings justice.

The psalm focuses on God as both the agent of creation and the ongoing active agent in the healing of the world; a God who is at once a God of power and of intimacy.

This week a Junior School child asked me, “Why did God create the world?” They have a wonderful way of asking questions and it is a great question.

If you were God why would you create the world?

While we may not know the answer, we are told in the Genesis 1 narrative, that God saw that the creation was good. And after creating humans in God’s image, we read that God saw that it was very good.

It is very good to be alive in this beautiful universe.

Blessings to you and yours,

Rev Dr Rosalie Clarke
