Parent Teacher interviews

A huge thank you to all families who were able to join with their child’s classroom or specialist teacher at the recent Parent Teacher Interviews. We understand the challenges that conducting these interviews on Webex presents, however,  feel that teachers and parents have been able to overcome the adversity to have meaningful and productive discussions.

We have seen many changes with our assessment and reporting process in 2020 and we look forward to returning to our regular programming in 2021. Having said that, we have learnt many great lessons from our experiences this year and hope to continue building on these in the future.

What to bring on Day 1 2021

As a reminder, all book packs will be sent directly to the classroom in 2021. Parents will be required to have their book packs paid for prior to the start of the school year or have contacted the school office to access a book list in order to individually purchase each item exactly. Payment for the book packs and fees can be made on QKR or by contacting the school office to organise a payment plan.

Organisation:

  • Families who have not purchased a book pack, must send all items to school on Friday 29th Jan 2021. Teachers will manage the distribution of these items throughout the year.
  • Students in Year 3, 5 and 6 will be required to bring their own ruler, sharpener and scissors. We encourage families to reuse these items from this year rather than buying new items each year.
  • Students in Prep, Yr 1, 2 and 4 will have scissors, rulers and sharpeners on their booklist.
  • On the first day, all classes will be organising student resources. This will include labeling everything. If you have personalised labels and would like to send them along, please feel free to do this, otherwise all students will be provided with labels at school.

Creating a sustainability shop:

At the end of this year all staff are being extra vigilant to ensure we don’t send things to landfill that could be reused. This includes any old teacher stationery, books, posters, furniture etc. All extra items are being sent to our sustainability shop to hopefully be reused throughout 2021. Before the end of this week, your child will have the option to donate their leftover stationery to the stationery shop.

WEARING CORRECT SCHOOL UNIFORM IN 2021

We know many families will take the opportunity over the holiday break to audit and top up uniform supplies in preparation for 2021.

Our strong focus on encouraging students to maintain high standards around the wearing of correct uniform will continue next year.

Can we please ask for your assistance in ensuring that all uniform items purchased comply with our school uniform guidelines, which can found here.

In particular:

·        SHORTS / PANTS

-        Plain black school shorts or pants only

-        NO sports shorts or shorts with cut out sides

-        NO logos, visible markings (including textured fabrics, piping, frills) or denim

-        Please ensure shorts are an adequate length that allow students to participate in all       school activities appropriately

·       SHOES

-        Black runners, black school shoes or black boots

·       NAMING ITEMS

-        Please make sure all pieces of uniform are clearly named. Named items will be returned to students when found.

While compliance is generally high, we have noticed that some students are choosing to wear items that are not part of our uniform. Staff will be reminding students of this and following up with families to support the wearing of correct uniforms at school. Your assistance in purchasing correct items when topping up uniform is appreciated.

We know that students may wish to wear items based on current trends and may apply pressure to parents to purchase certain types of items. However, wearing of school uniform has been made compulsory by school council at Buninyong Primary School and this position has been taken for a number of reasons, including:

·       Making sure our students are well presented

·       Making life easier for parents

·       Helping children identify with our school and feel like they belong

·       Making it easy to identify students when we are on excursions

It is also part of preparing our students for high school and future work life, as well as personal organisation and responsibility.

Our school uniform shop will be open all of this week and re-open next year on Friday 22nd January and then from Wednesday 27th. Items can be paid for on QKR, over the phone or pop into the school office.

Thanks for your assistance and co-operation.
