Teaching & Learning news
WILD
The WILD program continues to be a highlight of our school calendar. Despite wet and cold weather impacting on several of the recent WILD excursions, students and staff have maintained their enthusiasm for the program and are looking forward to the upcoming WILD camp. Most recently, staff and students abseiled at Whipstick Gully in Warrandyte. Congratulations to all who pushed through their fear and anxiety to engage in the challenge and to build trust and teamwork with others.
Hands On Learning (Richmond)
The Hands On Learning crew continue to meet each Wednesday to work on various individual and group projects. Recently they have been helping to rejuvenate the east courtyard's outdoor benches and table as well as repairing furniture in our Multi-Purpose Room. Thank you to students Liam, Anton and Ruby for your work with Mick each Wednesday.
Vocational Mentoring Exchange (VME)
This year, our Coburg campus has again been participating in the Vocational Mentoring Exchange (VME). The VME brings together a pool of volunteers with diverse and wide-ranging working lives and lived experience to support our students' transition to further education, training or employment.
As part of the annual program, students spend time visiting local industries accompanied by school staff and VME volunteers. This year students visited the Post Office Hotel in Coburg, Bayford in Epping and Carjo Furniture in Reservoir. Students engaged well in the excursion, asking questions and learning from the business owners and their employees.
Dreamtime at the G
On 19th May, our school's Mental Health Practitioner (MHP), Gen, and Youth Worker Jess accompanied some of our indigenous students to the Dreamtime mob gathering at Richmond Football Club. Students met and got to hear from players Marlion Pickett and Shai Bolton in an atmosphere that connected them to culture and community. The event was specifically arranged for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in relation to the Dream Time football match held on the subsequent weekend.
Coburg students' visit to community facilities
Recently, our Coburg students visited the Brunswick Community Garden and the Darebin Community Sports Stadium. The visits to these venues supported the Year 11 VCE VM Numeracy class, which is engaging in an assessment task that involves the design of a sports precinct and the Year 12 Numeracy lessons, which are focusing on designing a Community Garden.
