Year 5 Journey this Semester

Newsletter 2023 DCC Term 2 year 5

Hello Year 5 parents and guardians, let me tell you the wonderful work our Year 5 students have been up to in Term 2 and what they have achieved. We will be talking about their maths, literacy, inquiry, social skills and additional activities.

In Maths this term we have just finished our unit on maths operations such as division, multiplication, subtraction and addition. Now we have moved on to Measurements, using the knowledge of shapes and angles.

In Literacy we have been working on our persuasive texts, reviews and debating using literary devices, focusing on ethos, pathos and logos. While in Inquiry we have been looking at the history of Australia. Viewing a timeline of significant events in Australia, including colonisation and how they have impacted our lifestyle today.

This term in Social Emotional Learning we have been looking at positive influences which can help us with our behaviour. We have practised problem solving skills related to incidents that can be solved independently. We have also been focusing on emotional literacy which is where we talk about our inner feelings and the way we communicate with others.

In our Year 5 sport we have been doing rotations of different sports weekly. This term we are doing soccer, volleyball, softball, AFL, Netball and yoga. This gives an opportunity for us to test out different sports and get to know our capabilities and what we like the most so that next year we can compete in the DCC inter school sports competition. We also have specialists such as Mandarin, Cultural Inclusion, Physical Education and Creative Arts for us to experience new things.

There has been lots to fit in this term but we have had a great time learning together,

Your favourite cohort year 5. With the help of Alisha Sharma 5E.

‘Today, inspirational quotes were splashed around our school ground as random acts of motivation. Did you see them? Did you read them?’
