Principal's Report

Dear St Augustine's families and friends,

Dear Parents,

This week our students learnt about reconciliation as part of National Reconciliation week. This year’s theme: Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. It urges all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, let’s choose to create a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

World Environment Day

On Monday, 5th June is World Environment Day. The theme this year is #BeatPlasticPollution. Plastic has infiltrated all aspects of our lives and it is very easy to not even notice the amount we use each and every day. On Monday, 5th June, we will have a plastic bag/wrapper free day so we ask that all families try to use reusable items for lunch and snacks on this day.  Reduce the litter and the plastics being brought to school.

Did you know……..

  • More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled.
  • An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200 Eiffel Towers all together.
  • More than 800 marine and coastal species are affected by this pollution through ingestion, entanglement, and other dangers.
  • Microplastics – tiny plastic particles up to 5mm in diameter – find their way into food, water and air. It is estimated that each person on the planet consumes more than 50,000 plastic particles per year –and many more if inhalation is considered.

COVID 19

Unfortunately, Covid is around again and the regulations have changed. Here is the latest advice for schools:

· Parent/carers are asked to inform the school by phone or written notification if their child tests positive to Covid.

· Children who have tested positive are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school unless their symptoms have resolved.

· Staff who test positive to Covid are also recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school unless their symptoms have resolved.

· Principals are not required to inform the school community of any positive cases associated with their school on a daily basis (as was the previous requirement).

Prep 2024 Enrolments

Do you have a child starting school in 2024? If you don't have an application form please contact the office and submit your child's enrolment form as soon as possible.  We have been so pleased to hear all of the wonderful things people in our community have been sharing with potential new families all of the wonderful attributes our school has to offer.  A big thank you!

Have a fabulous weekend as we begin winter!  Hopefully the sun will shine!

God Bless
