Year 11 and 12 Visual Communication Design Excursion

Recently, our year 11 and 12 Viscom students embarked on an exciting and action-packed excursion to the Melbourne Museum and Ian Potter Centre. The students also stopped over at Melbourne central for lunch, where they were able to choose from the many delicious cafes and restaurants.

Over at the Melbourne Museum, the students experienced Top Designs, an exhibition that celebrates student excellence in the subjects of Visual Communication Design, Media, Product Design and Technology, Theatre Studies, Systems Engineering and VCE VET programs such as Creative and Digital Media, Integrated Technologies, Engineering studios and Sound Production.

Our students spent most of their time admiring the Visual Communication Design section, where they were able to look through samples of folio pages, take notes on formatting and presentation and learn more about their options when it comes to materials and methods. Students left feeling inspired and motivated to enter Top Designs 2024.

We then walked over to the Ian Potter Centre to see Melbourne Now, by the NGV. This exhibition is free and highly recommended to all the art and design lovers out there. The students were presented with a collection of contemporary projects from local Australian artists and designers. The exhibited pieces ranged from fashion and jewellery, painting, sculpture, architecture and ceramics, to video, performance, printmaking and publishing.

Melbourne Now was immensely rewarding as the students explored the many career paths that branch from the visual arts. Students were able to follow the origins of design projects to the final product, which allowed them to witness the vast amount of collaboration and trailing that a successful design requires.

Looking forward to seeing the VCE Viscom projects this year!

Year 7 Art Competition

Art gives us the ability to express ourselves. Through that expression, we communicate by drawing on our own unique emotions, thoughts and experiences. When you see another's art, you're seeing the world through their eyes. With that being said, Kambrya ran an art competition, exclusively for our year 7 students, who have just embarked on their high school journey. Art supplies were gifted to the first, second and third place submissions.

The entries were magnificent. Artworks ranged from sketches to paintings! The winners’ artworks were put on display in the Bulen Bulen foyer. Runner ups were also featured. All additional entries were respectively displayed across the art classrooms.

The art competition brought over students from all year levels to admire the artworks! It was fantastic to see the supportive conversations that the artworks evoked. It was a rewarding experience for those involved and one that the art staff intend to make a tradition out of.

Below are our winners:

1st Place: Eilya Zareer

2nd Place: Irien Dipu

3rd Place: Gayatri Kamath

Runner ups: Angela Ma and Ishaan Golla

Thank you to all the students who entered. The talent that we are seeing in our year 7s is immensely exciting as we cannot wait to follow and nurture your skills into your senior years!

Staff and students, if you have a spare moment, please come and check out the work! We have some exceptional pieces on exhibit! The art competition entries will be on display for the remainder of the term.
