Year 5 News

Another big fortnight in Year 5. It is hard to even comprehend how much has happened in such a little time. From a sports double header to an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. The weeks have passed by as quick as tornado winds.

Melbourne Museum and IMAX

As part of our current Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works, the Year 5s had our first excursion of the year. The trip entailed the cohort experiencing the "Wild Weather" short documentary on the biggest screen in Melbourne, IMAX. As well as IMAX, the students explored many different exhibitions including 600 Million Years, Dinosaur Walk, Dynamic Earth and the unanimous favourite, the Rainforest walk. Please enjoy some images from the day.

Literacy

We finished off the focus on the trait writing, sentence fluency. The students accumulated all their knowledge on sentence flow, sentence beginnings and types of sentences, into one task where they had to create the text for the textless story Journey. We are moving onto figurative language with the main focus on personification, metaphors and similes.

Numeracy

Our math lessons continue to delve into fractions further with mixed and improper fractions. We will move onto addition and subtraction with fractions. We are pleased with the leaps of improvement.

Well done Year 5s on another fantastic couple of weeks.
