Year 4 News

Literacy

During literacy we continue to build on our knowledge of spelling patterns during SMART Spelling and we are reading from Kids News weekly. This complements BTN (Behind the News ABC program) where our intention is to help children understand what they are reading and viewing. We ask them to read and feedback thoughts to timely news stories and many of the students make links to discussions at home, which shows that they are making connections – all great learning behaviours!

Maths

We are finishing up our unit on multiplication while students have recently been learning about factors and multiples. We will be moving onto division next and consolidating our understanding of time for applied maths.

Unit of Inquiry

We have completed our unit on “How we Express Ourselves”. In small groups students designed a slogan, jingle and print media to promote Beaumaris North Primary School to prospective prep parents. Students voted on their favourite jingle, slogan and piece of print media to present to Mrs Duffy.

Our new unit has begun, “Who we Are” with the central idea: “The body is made up of different systems that need to be maintained in order to stay healthy”. We had an incursion on Monday from the Mad About Science people. Students enjoyed themselves with hands-on, practical activities about the human body. Take a look at some pictures from the day.

Year 4 Sport

We are always grateful to our very patient and competent Year 6 house captains who prepare, set up, coach and umpire our students Thursday afternoons. Year 4’s look forward to Year 4 sport each week.
