Maths

The year 3’s have started learning about multiplication and we’ve started A-Z maths. A-Z  Maths is when you have fifty questions and if you get forty-eight or more questions right you get to move to the next letter. A is the easiest and Z is the hardest!

Writing

During our writing session, we were asked to write a news report about our weekend. This is a little different to our normal weekend recount because we had to write in 3rd person and use more formal language. We are practicing so we can write information reports later in the term.

Inquiry Research

In Inquiry, we are researching a notable indigenous Australian of choice to do a PowerPoint Project on. Example Jessica Mauboy, Eddie Mabo, Cathy Freeman and Samantha Harris. Our PowerPoint Presentation will try and communicate to the rest of the class why these Australians are so special.

Sports Report

Cross Country

The year 3 students were able to run in the cross country at Beaumaris Reserve last Friday. We were allowed to get dressed up in our house colours which looked like a rainbow. We all lined up at the starting line and stretched with Mrs Levine. Then Mr Farmer yelled ‘Go’ and we were off.

All the other kids not in the race cheered for us. It was a long 2km run but it was also fun. In the year three boys- Flynn G and Lachie G tied for 1st, Spencer L came 2nd and Ned V came 3rd. In the Girls race, Sienna came first, Rosie came 2nd and Aeri W came 3rd.   Everyone had a great day and we are really happy that Mrs Hall and Mr Farmer organised this event for us.

Swimming

We have begun our swimming lessons at Blue Fit Swim School in Sandringham.  A lady called Zoe called out our names and then told us the lanes that we will be swimming in.  The group colours are red, white, pink, green, purple and orange. We hopped on the bus to get there, and we all had a good time.

For Physical Education, Year 3 have been learning AFL including how to handball, how to kick and we are learning all the positions on the field.

In Art, year 3 has been looking at the Arnhem Land style cross hatching. To explore cross hatching, we are painting and drawing to create Arnhem Land inspired art.
