Wellbeing & Disability and Inclusion

Yesterday, our staff acknowledged IDAHOBIT day (also known as Pride Day) as staff at Beaumaris North Primary School. BNPS staff came dressed with a ‘touch of rainbow’ on this day to communicate to our students that rainbow colours represent diversity and inclusion. At Beaumaris North Primary School, we pride ourselves on being a safe and inclusive place where everyone is free to be who they want to be. Next year, we plan to have our students and community involved also!

‘IDAHOBIT’ stands for 'The International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, discrimination against Intersex People and Transphobia'. This means it is a day to celebrate people with a diverse range of gender identities and sexual orientations.

As a school community, this is also an opportunity for us to reflect on and celebrate our progress and journey in creating a respectful and inclusive culture. This means we are kind in our verbal communication, body language and actions regardless of each other’s’ differences.

To support Child Safety, Standard 5, we must ensure ‘Equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected in policy and practice’. Schools are encouraged to support diversity through the school community and recognise dates that acknowledge these. Schools - diversity and equity guidance | Victorian Government (www.vic.gov.au)
