Welcome to St Joseph’s College Resource Centre
Although the Kildare Campus has not officially opened for learning, the team has been very busy setting up our new library space. It is becoming fully decked out with amazing new shelving, furniture, and a huge variety of fiction and non-fiction books, not to mention games. We can’t wait for the Year 7 students to have their opportunity to explore, borrow and indulge in the peaceful and engaging new learning setting.
Have you heard of ECHO EDUCATION?
The library has recently purchased Echo Online – a unique teaching / learning tool in two parts.
Part One provides context and backgrounds to issues presented in the news media. Information and arguments pros and cons are extracted and defined from authoritative online and traditional news sources, with hyperlinks to the items containing the information. These items can be straight text or interactive, audio or video.
Part Two provides a searchable database of main news and items relevant to important issues of the moment. The items are drawn from authoritative news sources in print and online or a combination of both. The database draws mainly from cost-free sources, avoiding paywalls whenever possible. Also whenever possible, a news item will be grouped with analysis, comment and background to that item.
Please come and see the Library staff or contact your teachers for login information so you have access to this amazing new resource!
You may have noticed a display of Indigenous collection books in our library this week to acknowledge the National Reconciliation Week. We encourage you to check out these great books which are based on Indigenous culture and recognise the historic events surrounding the Stolen Generation. Here at St Joseph’s, we pay our respects to the Indigenous community and stand together towards a future of reconciliation and peace.
Stay safe and well during the next few wintry months!
