Junior School

Over the past few weeks, staff and students have been ploughing through various assessment tasks as we navigate the assessment and reporting season in Junior School. It is a time when staff and students can take the opportunity to reflect on, and celebrate, the learning experienced in Semester 1. This semester will see our Junior School reports move online, as parents will access their child’s report through SEQTA Engage. Further information and instructions will be communicated to families in the coming weeks.

On Thursday 18 May, our College community had the wonderful opportunity to hear two inspiring and informative presenters, Martin and Carley McGauran, at the Raising Kids in a Digital World seminar. The evening was full of valuable information and practical tips to assist parents and teachers in keeping our children safe online. Junior School is privileged to partner with Inform and Empower to educate students, parents and staff about the importance of Digital Safety and Wellbeing. All parents / carers who registered for the event will have already received an email with the resources from the evening. Any parents who missed this opportunity can find further information, a link to a presentation recording, and a valuable toolkit on the College App. It is certainly worth checking out. Thank you to all the parents and staff who took the time out of their busy week to invest in this vital topic.

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual campaign that focuses on an Australian children’s book to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. On Wednesday 24 May, our Junior School students participated in this event. They enjoyed the picture book The Speedy Sloth written by award-winning creators Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie, whose inspiring story celebrates all winners ... especially those who don’t come first. We congratulate and thank our amazing Resource Centre staff, who organised the event for our students.

Congratulations to all our ROARsome students who received the Roar Award for the first half of Term 2.

Occasionally, students forget their lunches and our Canteen staff provide them with a sandwich to prevent hunger setting in. The cost of $2.50 then needs to be covered by the parents / guardians. We are introducing a new system to assist with the payment. As of Monday 5 June, students who are provided a sandwich will receive a sticker in their Student Diary. Parents will then have seven days to pay. Payment can be made by the students via the Canteen or by parents at Visitor Reception. If, after seven days, the payment has not been made, this amount will be charged to your school account.

Dates for Your Diary

Please be reminded that Friday 9 June is Student Free Day, so students will not be required to be at school. Also, Monday 12 June is the King’s Birthday public holiday. In Term 3, we will conduct Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday 20 July (4.00pm - 8.30pm) and Tuesday 25 July (4.00pm - 6.00pm). We welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s report and progress with you.
