Term 1 Interschool Volleyball

What a busy, but wonderful first term of the year it has been for NHS Volleyball! 120 students and 16 teams represented Northcote High School at the interschool volleyball tournaments at Reservoir High School.

It was great to see lots of new Year 7s get involved with the interschool competition. They developed their confidence and knowledge of the sport throughout the tournament, which was fantastic to see!

The Year 8 teams did very well throughout the tournament. We were lucky to have some experienced volleyballers from last year, but we also had some new students who were a great addition to NHS Volleyball. Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls A team who were undefeated throughout the tournament and will be representing NHS at Regionals in Term 4.

The Intermediate teams (Year 9 and 10) were very competitive against the other schools in our District. Congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 Girls who were undefeated and represented NHS at Regionals yesterday. Unfortunately, they didn’t make finals but the passages of play and level of skill that was demonstrated throughout the course of the day was very impressive! Well done to Aila Dekker, Matilda Hale, Hazel Lawerence, Meg Orr, Zoe Panatopoulous, Amie Stapleton, Acacia Teo and Lily Walter. Thank you to Minke Cook for coaching this team to Regionals!

Our Senior students, who are fantastic leaders throughout NHS Volleyball, worked well with their team members and demonstrated high skill level throughout their interschool tournament. Unfortunately, the Senior teams just missed out on finals.

A big thank you to the student coaches who assisted with trials and coaching the teams throughout the tournaments and well done to all of the students for getting involved in NHS interschool volleyball!

Year 9/10 Regional Tennis

It was pleasure travelling to Oak Park Tennis club with our team. With Joel Dichiera and Leo Cooper of Year 9 and Nate Canje, Asher Oakley, Matthew Lucas and Dylan Cook of Year 10 playing multiple singles and doubles matches, scoring and umpiring it was a full day. After close matches to Kyneton and University High, we finished the day playing eventual winner Viewbank. With the underage National champion playing for Viewbank it was amusing watching Joel smile each time he won a point in this match. All of the students were a credit to NHS with their conduct and effort in all of their games. Despite not winning, it was a very productive and educational day.

Year 9/10 Regional Softball

The inter girls softball team competed in the regional competition on 3 April against Hazel Glen and St Helena. Northcote dominated against an inexperienced Hazel Glen, winning 17-2. St Helena were tougher competition. After 3 innings scores were level 12-12, required a fourth and final innings. The Northcote girls fielded fantastically to keep St Helena scoreless then hit the winning run. Off to the State competition for the second year in a row, a great effort!

Year 7 Division Tennis

Our Year 7 Tennis students had a great day playing singles and doubles against three local schools. Our girls had a strong win over Thornbury and drew 3 matches each with Preston. When games were tallied we finished behind Preston 16-17. Our boys had strong wins over Thornbury and Preston. In a close final against Lalor they finished second 16-19 games. It was a great day with all students gaining experience, improving and getting a taste for Tennis.
