Last Monday, 24th April, teachers gathered to discuss our future directions in the area of Mathematics. Teachers will be working towards making some innovative and exciting additions in this area, including open ended problem solving and investigations in the classroom.
Another part of our learning on the closure day included improving our knowledge of the Assessment Waterfall Framework.
The Assessment Waterfall Framework guides the learning so that students become a major part of what is being taught. Teachers collect data to inform them about what students need to know. Students find out what they are going to learn and why, they receive feedback so they can improve and are able to set goals moving forward.
Later this term, students will be setting learning goals, which will be shared when we gather for Parent/Teacher Chats in term three.

An important element of Teaching and Learning and Assessment is Moderation. Moderation is a process where teachers come together to collaborate with student work samples, to discuss student achievement and progress.
This week at St Michael's, teachers gathered to moderate student writing samples in Literacy. There were rich, collaborative and meaningful discussions held about student progress in writing. In the coming weeks, teachers will meet to moderate reading and maths work samples as well.
