Principal's Report

Dear parents,

Yesterday our students enjoyed their Aboriginal culture immersion day. It was a great launch to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait inquiry topic this term.

Over lunch Aunty Gaby and Uncle Paul and I were chatting, and they shared that they were thrilled that the whole school was engaged in the activities. They were excited to pass on some of their culture and knowledge to our students.  The students played instruments, danced, and played traditional games for the day.

Trivia Night

Later in the term on Friday the 26th of May, the school council is hosting a parent trivia night at Jubilee Hall.  It will be a night full of trivia, games and music led by the talented Bushy as trivia master and Blake on the decks.  Reserve your table or place on a table by following this link: https://www.trybooking.com/CHWLB

Winter Solstice

On Friday 16th of June, we will be hosting the annual Winter Solstice bonfire night in Middle Gully.  This night includes an arts exhibition in the JCB, lantern parade, bonfire and food in Middle Gully.  It a fantastic tradition and fun family night.  Stay tuned for more details.

Parent and Friends Fundraising Efforts

The parents and friends’ association (PFA) has several community building and fundraising activities planned for the 2023 year including the Mother’s Day stall, Winter Solstice, School student Disco, Father’s Day stall, the Fete and the Christmas Raffle.

We sought your input into where the PFA funds should be spent this year through a survey last term.  The survey has now closed and the most popular project was to Connect the Eco Learning Space in Middle Gully to Power.  The Eco Shed Middle Gully is utilised for a range of Landcare and Forest school activities.  Connecting power to the shed will increase the functionality of the shed for science, Landcare, forest school and arts and craft activities for all students.  Power would also support us to run events such as the Winter Solstice much more easily and would avoid us relying on generators on evenings like this.

The school council will be seeking advice and quotes as to the best approach for this project.  Once we have a costing, we will share our progress towards our target.

If you would like to support the PFA please email the front office on macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au and we will connect you with the PFA team.

Parent support in classrooms

We are calling for parent volunteers to support with student resourcing tasks and support in the classrooms.  Volunteers would be working with and guided by our friendly educational support staff.  All training will be provided, and both your time and work will be highly valued the entire Macedon Primary School community.

We are also keen to receive expressions from interest from any retired / teachers on leave to support with our MiniLit, reading support program.  This program reaps outstanding rewards for our students who require additional support with their reading.  The MiniLit program operates daily between 9.00am and 11.00am.  We would appreciate any support you might be able to provide.

Please contact us at the front office, macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au to express your interest and we will be in touch.  We anticipate the volunteer program to run on a flexible basis and look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),

Matt
