This week in Indonesian, the Year 5 and 6 students have learned about the earliest recorded contact between Australia and Indonesia: for hundreds of years before Europeans arrived in Australia, the monsoon winds brought sailors from the island of Sulawesi (now a part of Indonesia) to the Yolngu lands in what is now the Northern Territory. They came in search of trepang, turtle shell and pearls and camped on the beach, trading and working with the Yolngu people until the season changed and the wind carried them home again.
