STEM Update

This week the Preps had a break from screens and shiny things, but I still wanted to work on our understanding of coding, so, it was time to break out the classic (and probably the digest tech thing I had when I was in Prep...) plastic blocks!
Students created a series of patterns and designs using the blocks and then wrote out instructions (or code) for their partners to put back together.
It was a great learning experience, and they even lasted until the last five minutes before they realised they could also use the blocks to make a giant snake or sword which (maybe) was just as fun...
With the Grade 5/6 students, taking them away from their screens and shiny things could start a full-on revolt, but fearing for my safety, I still made sure we used them for something productive... designing a new school logo!
Now I know those Koalas have been around for a while (some students mentioned "Even my old dad has it from his uniform when he went here"), so it could be time for an upgrade.
We talked about some factors needed for a good logo (easily recognised, can work as a silhouette, etc) and got to work on making logos for our school houses and sports teams.
Now... time to chat with Mr. Forrest about that new branding...
