Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you have had a restful break and the time to reconnect with family and friends as we reflected on an important time in the Catholic calendar.

This week we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools to celebrate our mission and share the many things that are special about our schools. At Sacred Heart we have immense gratitude for all who came before us in Catholic Education - the students, families, parishioners, educators, Sisters of Mercy and clergy who have worked with so much commitment and love to ensure Catholic Education flourishes.

One of the important happenings for Catholic Education Week is Open Day which we have enjoyed today. It is always wonderful to be able to showcase the learning and wonderful spirit of our school to new and existing families. Our Year 6 Leaders proudly showed families through the school and answered questions. Thank you and congratulations on a job well done. You were great ambassadors for your school and I received many compliments on your manners, confidence and the way you proudly told families about your time at Sacred Heart.

Applications for parents wishing to enroll children in Foundation and other classes at Sacred Heart for the 2024 school year are now open. If you were unable to attend our Open Day but are interested in finding out more about our school, please phone the school and we will happily arrange a tour.

Next Friday, May 12th at 9:15am we will celebrate Mothers’ Day with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church followed by a morning tea in the Mercy Centre. This is always one of our favourite school events and we hope our mums, grandmothers and other special people can join us to celebrate the wonderful role you all play in the lives of our children. All classes will participate in Mothers’ Day PPR.

On ANZAC Day many children were able to join the Tatura ANZAC march and represent either their school or local community group.  It was wonderful to see the respect and honour our younger generation displayed as they participated in the march.   A special thank you to our Year 6 Leaders for laying a wreath on behalf of Sacred Heart School.

Recently the children who are preparing for their Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist were presented to our parish community. Over the coming weeks they will spend time with their families preparing for the Sacraments which will take place on Sunday May, 28th. This is a very important time for the children and their families and our prayers are with them all.

Well done to all our children on the way they competed in our school’s Cross Country last week.  Everyone joined in the fun of the day, had a go and was determined to do their best, encouraging others and cheering them along. It was wonderful to see and hear the spirit of the day. Thank you, Dom Poppa, for organising the event, our many parent helpers and the children for the way you competed. Congratulations also to our winning house, McAuley.  Placegetters in Years 4-6 have qualified for Division Cross Country on May 12th. Congratulations and all the best for this run.

On Friday, May 5th, Sacred Heart staff will participate in a Professional Learning Day on Spelling Mastery with Claire Scot, a highly regarded and experienced professional in direct instruction. Spelling Mastery is a program that provides structured lessons to effectively and efficiently teach the spelling skills students need to become proficient readers and writers. We were lucky that Claire was available on this day and is able to work with staff in this area. This is a school closure day and children are not required at school on this day.

A reminder that all students are expected in full winter school uniform by next week, Week 3. Please see the school website for the uniform list.  Hats are optional. Thank you, parents, for making sure that children come to school each day dressed in correct uniform. Our uniform plays an important part in setting the culture of our school and I really appreciate your support on this.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
