Classroom News - Year 1

Settling into Term 2

Year 1 have settled well since returning in Term 2. There have been lots of  wonderful learning and re-learning of processes.

In Religion we completed our Pentecost unit last Friday with a spirit filled prayer session. Students read the thank you prayers they had written. For the remainder of the term we will be focusing on our unit called Love One Another.

Ending our prayer with 'Holy Spirit Rock'

In Maths we learned to add and subtract using strategies such as bridging to 10 and using double and near doubles. We looked at one-half and half during our Fraction unit. Year 1 are learning to count on and back. We are also working on recognising patterns on a number line and recognising number patterns when counting forward and back.

In English we have continued with our InitiaLit lessons and the improvement in handwriting is to be commended. Year 1 have been up-levelling their Wow words and punctuation marks. They are working hard on their spelling and increasing their writing stamina.

Certificates and commendations for their commitment to learning.

We are currently working on our Dinosaur PBL where our goal is to turn our classroom into a dinosaur museum. Students have been asked to bring at least 1 dinosaur item they have at home to add to the work they are doing in class to be displayed in our museum.

General Reminders

Since returning this term we have noticed that some of our Year 1 student's  shoe laces get undone pretty quickly. Most of them are unable to tie their shoe laces. Please be reminded that their safety is compromised when their shoe laces are untied. Please spend some time to teach them how to tie their shoe laces or get them shoes that do not require shoe laces until they are able to tie their shoe laces independently.

We know that our students have been learning from home where toys are readily available. Year 1 have been reminded to leave their toys at home. Please support us and remind your child to keep their toys at home as a few students are continuing to bring in toys to school.

Please ensure that after each wash your child's jumper has their name on it. We are constantly reminding students that their jumpers need to be zipped into back packs. Sometimes they are still left in classrooms, on bag racks and in the playground and if we can read a name on them they are easy to return to owners.
