Classroom News - Year 5

Great start back in Term 2

Year 5 have settled back into school life very well over the last couple of weeks. It has been fantastic to have all the children back with their friends and teaching them in their classroom environment. With only a few weeks left of this term and have been very busy reviewing and building on from what we have learnt so far and getting back in normal routines and processes.

                                     English

Our English focus for the rest of Term 2 is Persuasive texts. Students have been exploring how to structure a persuasive argument with good strong arguments with supporting evidence. They have been coming up with some sizzlers starters for their arguments, and incorporating some 'Wow' words in their writing. Big Write have continued this week and their ' Talk Homework' will be sent home at the start of the week, and we encourage family members to participate in this so that students have some great ideas to assist with their writing. Talk homework can be done over the dinner table, while on an afternoon walk or even in the car.

                      Other subject areas

In Mathematics we are studying the division concept over the next 2 weeks. In Science we are continuing with our Antarctica vs the Australian desert Project Based Learning and in Religion we are continuing learning about Pentecost and have been completing a PBL which relates to this.

                     General Reminders

We are continuing to ask families to continue discussions with students about safe and appropriate use of technology at school and at home.
