PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME

UNIT SHARES

As part of a PYP school, Murrumbeena Primary students are engaged in the exploration of six units of inquiry each year. These units fall under the umbrella of six transdisciplinary themes which are considered essential in the context of a programme of international education. (Who we are, How we express ourselves, How we organise ourselves, Where we are in place and time, Sharing the planet and How the world works) These themes have global significance for all students in all cultures and are supported by knowledge, concepts and skills from the traditional subject areas.

As part of building community connections, this year, the students would like to invite parents in to the classroom to share in their learning journey at the culmination of each unit of inquiry. These unit shares will be an informal opportunity for parents to come into the classroom and witness the range of learning engagements which the students have taken part in, during the course of the unit. This may include learning in Maths, Literacy, the unit of inquiry, specialist classes or personal and social skills which have also been developed. It will be an opportunity for students to develop their confidence when presenting, as well as reflecting and evaluating their own learning. The unit shares will alternate between mornings and afternoons across the year, in the hope that parents will be able to attend at least one unit share in the course of the year. While parents are welcome to come to all unit shares, it is certainly not an expectation, as students will also have the opportunity to share with other students during this time, if parents are not in attendance.  You will be notified at least 2 weeks in advance, of the date of these unit shares, in order to plan accordingly.
